How we got here

Our Story

The wrong train

Maya was running late. Ethan was on the wrong platform entirely. Forty minutes of delay announcements later, neither of them minded very much where the train was going.

A borrowed canoe

Our first trip together, a canoe we absolutely were not qualified to steer, and a thunderstorm we watched roll in from the middle of the lake. We have never laughed harder.

Ten minutes of snow

It snowed for exactly ten minutes that afternoon. Ethan had been carrying the ring around for three weeks waiting for a moment that felt right. That one did.

The Day

Guests arrive

Parking is on site and free. Follow the signs down the gravel lane past the barn.

Ceremony

In the meadow beside the water. About twenty-five minutes. Heels and soft ground rarely get along — you have been warned.

5:00

Cocktails on the terrace

Drinks, something to eat, and the part of the evening where everyone finally meets each other.

6:30

Dinner in the mill

Seated dinner, a few short speeches, and dessert that is very much worth saving room for.

Dancing

Send-off

Sparklers by the water, then shuttles back to both hotels.

Driving in

The venue sits about forty minutes northwest of Waterbury. The last half mile is an unpaved lane — go slowly, and ignore your navigation when it tells you to turn at the white gate.

Before you ask

Questions

Garden formal. Suits and summer dresses. The ceremony is on grass, so block heels or flats will serve you far better than stilettos, and it cools down quickly once the sun drops behind the trees.
Yes, and we would love to see them. There is a children’s plate on the RSVP form and a quiet room upstairs in the mill if anyone needs a break from the noise.
Your invitation names everyone we have a seat for. If you are not sure, ask us — it is a small room and we would rather sort it out now than count chairs on the day.
Everything moves inside the mill and carries on exactly as planned. We will post an update here by noon on the day, so check this page before you set out.
During the ceremony, please keep phones away — we have a photographer and we would rather see your faces. Afterwards, photograph everything.
